A recipient of the 2024 James Beard Foundation Leadership Award, Muhammad Abdul-Hadi is the founder of Down North Pizza in Philadelphia, a mission-driven restaurant that exclusively hires previously incarcerated employees. His new cookbook, We the Pizza: Slangin’ Pies and Savin’ Lives tells the story of how the restaurant fulfills its mission to educate and reduce recidivism rates in North Philly while serving deliciously ingenious pies.
To celebrate the publication of We the Pizza, Muhammad and Down North Pizza chef Mike Carter will be joined by former editor of Bon Appetit Magazine, Dawn Davis, for a special evening of community and conversation.
Wine, non-alcoholic beverages, and pizza will be served.
Copies of We the Pizza: Slangin’ Pies and Savin’ Lives by Muhammad Abdul-Hadi will be available for purchase with tickets or at the event from our friends at BEM Books & More.

Tickets to events held at Platform at Pier 57 by the James Beard Foundation cover the cost of food, education and a unique dining experience. Meals are prepared by culinary masters from all regions of the United States and around the world. Unless otherwise stated, alcoholic beverages are provided on a complimentary basis and are not included in the ticket price.
James Beard Foundation events permit guests age 21 years and older to attend events where alcoholic beverages are served.
